Meet the baritone violin, the stunning instrument, half way between the viola and the cello, that Stéphane Tran Ngoc has been
playing over the past year.

A historic instrument from the renaissance, the baritone went through a long period of hibernation, mostly due to its big size
required to make the cello-like deep tones ring, giving both violin-makers and perfromers some strong challenges. Thanks to a new
shape imagined by  violin maker André Sakellarides, the baritone is back in daylight, with a powerful and beautiful tone, and
readily playable.

Stéphane has given recitals in France, Denmark, Vietnam and the USA on the Baritone, playing solo, with piano or in duets with
cello, adapting works for cello, viola da gamba, viola or violin, in a repertoire from the 17th century to contemporary. He is next to
perform in recitals on the Baritone in the Spring 2017, in Hong-Kong and in Hanoi (Vietnam).
